FDLE to take second look at woman's death

BRADENTON BEACH (FOX 13) -

Sheena Morris would've turned 26 years old Wednesday.

"The birthdays are always really, really tough, I usually spend the day crying," Kelly Osborn said.

Her mom has suffered with that type of pain since New Years Day 2009. Sheena, the beautiful blonde with the feisty personality, was found dead in her hotel room after a fight with her then-fiancé.

She hanged herself in the shower, according to the Bradenton Beach Police Department.

"The shower was dusted. There were no fingerprints, not even hers," Osborn said.

Osborn has loudly questioned the small department's suicide ruling. She believes her daughter was murdered and the scene staged. She even hired her own experts who said suicide was unlikely.

Sunday, dual rallies were held in Tampa and her native upstate New York. Her supporters are calling for the case to be-re-opened and outside agencies involved. Now, those rallying cries are being answered.

"It does seem ironic that this news comes out the day of her birthday, sure," she said.

FDLE's SMART, or Specialized Multi-Agency Review Team, is going to take a new in-depth look into Sheena's death. The team, made up of various experts, will scour the case files for any new information. Osborn is excited but skeptical.

"Hopefully they go further than that the small little file the Bradenton Beach Police have," Osborn said.

"I know a lot of this is very emotional for the family, I don't the luxury of dealing with emotions or opinions. I have to go by -- and my investigators go by -- evidence in front of them," said Police Chief Sam Speciale.

All along, Chief Speciale has stood by the original investigation. Still, he welcomes the SMART Team and its experts.

"If FDLE looks at it and finds something we didn't see or something other agency didn't see, that's great. That's why we're here," he said.

The team will get to work next week. The findings won't be ready for four to seven weeks.
