SARASOTA (FOX 13) -

A 10-year-old Sarasota girl who was reported missing Saturday following a strange incident at her maternal grandparent's home is on her way to Texas.

Emmelia I. Ward is in the custody of her biological parents.

According to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report investigators made contact with the child's paternal grandfather who said the trio is on their way there.

Once they arrive, Keller J. and Jessica A. Ward will make contact with Texas authorities to establish the child is safe and being well cared for.

On Saturday morning Keller Ward showed up at Emmelia's maternal grandparent's residence where he entered into an altercation with the grandfather. He then allegedly got Emmelia into his vehicle and drove away.

The incident occurred just after 9 a.m. in the 6600 block of Peacock Rd. A short time later SCSO issued an alert for the girl.

Authorities say the child has been in the care of the maternal grandparents for the past year or so.

So far no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
