A Lakewood Ranch teen just won an impressive honor.
Seventeen-year-old Brittany Wenger won the top spot in the Google Science Fair.
She claimed the grand prize for her work in developing a test that detects breast cancer.
Wenger won $50,000 for her work, an overseas trip and an internship with a top research company.
Out of 5,000 entries around the world, Brittany won top honors with her computer program to detect breast cancer.
Wenger is a senior at Out-of-Door Academy in Lakewood Ranch. She designed a global computer program to detect breast cancer that could improve medical diagnosis.
Last month, she told FOX 13 how the program works.
"I taught the computer how to diagnose breast cancer so it could determine whether breast masses are malignant or benign," Wenger said.
Brittany told us she doesn't want to profit from her program—she's in it to save lives.
