A Seffner man is dead, and his mother is grief stricken after police say he was hit and killed by a drunk driver.
Malcolm Davis, 22, was hit after his car broke down in Orlando.
State troopers say Davis was hit and killed Saturday by a drunk driver. It happened on State Road 408 near Hiawassee after Davis' car broke down.
He was standing near the car at about 11 at night when troopers say Thomas Monks swerved off the road, and hit and killed Davis.
Just minutes before, Malcolm had called his mother.
She said that was the last conversation she had with her son.
Monks told me he drank 10 beers before the crash, but said it was over the course of 10 hours and he said he didn't feel like he was drunk.
"I am deeply sorry and I understand they should be upset with me, and I should be punished for what I've done," Monks said.
Monks faces DUI manslaughter charges. Troopers say he had blood-shot eyes, and slurred speech.
Addition to their grief, Davis's family says they are appalled that Monks was given $10,000 bond.
Within ten hours of the crash, he walked out of jail.
As for Monk's apology....
"He can't give me Malcolm back. Can't give him back, and I want him back," said bridgett green, Malcom's mother.
