A two-vehicle crash in New Port Richey Friday night ended with one man in the hospital and another behind bars facing a driving under the influence charge.
Douglas Franklin Cox, 51, was booked into the Pasco County Jail early Saturday morning. He was released just after noon on a bond of $5,000.
Norman Ralph Stophel, 58, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson. He is listed in critical condition.
Cox and a female passenger in his 2006 Ford Focus were not injured.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report the incident occurred at 8PM at the intersection of Old County Road 54 and St. Lawrence Dr.
Investigators say Cox, a New Port Richey resident, was heading east on CR 54 approaching the intersection when he attempted to turn left.
When he did so he traveled directly into the path of Stophel's 2004 Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The front end of the bike struck the front end of Cox's vehicle.
Stophel of New Port Richey was not wearing a helmet the report states.
Cox was charged with one count of DUI resulting in bodily injury. He was also issued a citation for violating the right of way.
The investigation continues.
