Add Dick Vitale to the list of frustrated Tampa Bay Rays fans, though his gripe Wednesday night was with dismal attendance numbers.
Vitale, the always-entertaining ESPN basketball broadcaster, is a longtime Rays fan and attends most home games.
And as the Rays battled the Cleveland Indians – eventually losing 10-6 – Vitale slammed fans for not showing their support.
"Fan support is PATHETIC 4 a team trying to earn a wildcard berth," Vitale tweeted. "Bud Selig is right a new stadium is NEEDED!"
Last night's announced attendance was 15,143 and has slumped again this season. It didn't help that manage Joe Maddon was also tossed from the game by home plate umpire Dan Iassogna for arguing about balls and strikes.
Shortly after tweeting out the criticism, Vitale must have had second thoughts. On Thursday morning, the tweet had been deleted.
