The Florida Highway Patrol says a wrong-way driver caused a fatal accident on Interstate 275 early Thursday morning.
The crash happened just before 3 a.m. near the I-4 connection.
According to investigators, a 2012 Ford Fusion collided head-on with a black 2000 Ford Mustang. The driver of the Mustang, 20-year-old William Brooks Angel of Wesley Chapel, was killed in the crash.
It appears the Ford Fusion was going the wrong way in the northbound lanes, officials said. The driver of that was car, identified by troopers as Christopher Ponce, 22, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.
There were two other people inside the Mustang. Jay Davis and Robert Newberry were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in serious condition.
All lanes of northbound I-275 were closed, but have since been reopened.
