TAMPA (FOX 13) -

An argument between two men in a wooded area of Tampa turned violent Saturday night sending one man to the hospital.

Andrew Leon Richards, 19, suffered several gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital just before 10 PM.

Just before noon on Sunday Jonathan Xavier Torres was arrested on one count of attempted first-degree murder in connection with shooting. He is being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail.

According to a Tampa Police Department report officers were dispatched to the intersection of South MacDill Ave. and West Interbay Blvd. in response to an injured person call.

Investigators say Richards and Torres, 19, got into an argument in the 6200 block of Martindale Ave. According to a witness Torres pulled out a handgun and shot the victim five times and fled.

Friends of Richards drove him to the MacDill/Interbay intersection where he was picked up and transported for medical treatment.

Detectives with TPD's ROC unit contacted Torres and talked him into surrendering. He was booked into the Jail just before 4 PM Sunday. The suspect has two prior arrests in Hillsborough County on drug related charges.

Richards is recovering from his injuries.
