Sickles High alumnus John Henson said he's "excited" and can't wait to begin his NBA career after being drafted 14th by the Milwaukee Bucks.
That makes Henson, who played college basketball at North Carolina, the highest ever drafted basketball player from Hillsborough County.
"It's a nice, small city," Henson said of moving to Milwaukee. "Not necessarily a small city, but a good size city. There's not much traffic and you can get pretty much anywhere in 20 minutes. I'm just excited. I'm ready to go there, and from day one work hard and help them win."
NBA scouts tout Henson's defense. He was a two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year at UNC, and that could land him early playing time with the Bucks, who went 31-35 last season.
But right now, Henson said the feeling of being an NBA player is still trying to sink in.
"It's a dream come true," he said. "I was on the road for 20 days. I got two bags, had to do laundry a couple of times. The journey was great, and now I'm rewarded. This part is over, and now it's time for a bigger journey."
