TAMPA (FOX 13) -

A loggerhead turtle is recovering at the Florida Aquarium after being rescued by the Coast Guard.

The crew found the turtle in a shipping channel off Egmont Key.   It was unable to dive and was right in the path of a freighter.

They named the endangered animal 'Larry the loggerhead' and brought him to the aquarium for treatment.

"She's in kinda critical condition. She's floating. We're unsure why that is. Her blood levels aren't the best but we're going to work on that to get her in the best shape so we can get her back out there," explained vet tech Susan Coy.

Yes, he's a 'she.'  Larry is actually a female, but they're still going to call her Larry.
