ATLANTA -

Amy Short wanted a couch where she could hang out, read, relax, and even sleep. She found one at a discount furniture retailer, but that was the beginning of her problems. So she called the Call for Action team.

"We were just out shopping one day and we sat down and we just sunk in. I was, like, I can live on this couch," said Amy Short.

Just four months after buying her dream couch, Short sank into the couch, completely. She called the discount furniture retailer where she bought the couch, asking for a fix. She says she thought it would be no big deal, particularly since she bought an extended warranty.

"The gentlemen came out, looked at the couch, inspected it, kind of opened up the zippers and kind of took a couple of pictures and left. About two or three days later I get a call back saying, 'We're sorry, but we found this is normal wear and there is nothing we can do to help you," said Short.

Frustrated at not being able to talk with the retailer, Short dialed Call for Action. The team of consumer negotiators got a third party to look at the sinking couch cushions.

"The independent appraiser said that the furniture was defective. We worked diligently since November of 2011 to have this furniture either replaced or her money refunded," said Call for Action Director Susan Bowie.

For seven months Bowie worked on Short's behalf.  Short's couch cushions were finally replaced. She says Call For Action was very effective.

"Amazing! All of the sudden people actually talked to me. They'd call me back. They wanted to ask more questions about the situation," said Short.
