Sunshine Skyway reopens after Debby threat

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge was opened early Wednesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol announced.

It was closed Sunday at 4 as Tropical Storm Debby brought heavy wind and rain. The stretch was the longest closing for the bridge.

In September 2001, it was closed for eight hours during Tropical Storm Gabrielle.

The Skyway wasn't the only bridge affected. Monday, portions of the Courtney Campbell Causeway were closed, and all eight lanes of the Howard Frankland were briefly closed because of strong winds and possible flooding.

FHP is in charge of some of the major Bay area  bridges and they make the final call on whether they should remain open or not.
