On June 24, 2012, at approximately 4 p.m., a tornado touched down on Manuel Road in Bowling Green, Florida. The tornado was reported by a citizen who called Emergency Management Staff. Fortunately, the homeowners were not home at the time of touch down and the only damage they found was in the barn and a few uprooted orange trees.
Hardee County was under a tornado warning at the time and still remains under a tornado watch until approximately 11pm Monday along with a flood watch until Tuesday morning. Earlier in the day, wind gusts were reported at approximately 30 to 40 mph. between Wauchula and Bowling Green.
The Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor Tropical Storm Debby with the National Weather Service as well as the State Division of Emergency Management. Tropical Storm Debby is currently favoring the east, with the question now being "how fast" will it go. We urge everyone to avoid being on the roads during heavy rain; however, if you need to be out, please take the appropriate precautions.
