Manatee: Sunshine Skyway remains closed

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge remained closed Monday afternoon as Tropical Storm Debby continued to bring heavy rain and high winds into the area, creating a big headache for Manatee County drivers.

FHP troopers reported winds of 52 mph at 2 p.m. -- well above the 40mph maximum limit.

More storms were expected to move into the county during the afternoon.

There was reported damage off Anna Maria Island, and the city pier had been closed. There were also reports of some coastal flooding areas.
