LEALMAN (FOX 13) -

The man investigators say is behind Friday's crime spree that left two people dead and nine others injured is no stranger to trouble.

"Apparently he was a principal at a middle school in Tampa and he'd been terminated for crack cocaine use," Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said.

Indeed, Anthony Ginacola was arrested back in 2007 while he was the principal at Van Buren Middle School in Tampa. He was accused of buying crack cocaine in his office.

Friday, he was accused of more serious crimes.

Sheriff Gualtieri says it all started at a Lealman group home for the hearing impaired.

"Giancola, who is the suspect, entered the home and he had stabbed four people," said Gualtieri.

Justin Lee Vandenburgh, 27, and Mary Anne Allis, 59, died as a result of that attack.

Investigators say Giancola then headed to the Kenvins Motel nearby. There he allegedly attacked husband and wife owners Kanu and Indiranden Patel.

Not done, investigators say he ran over four people on a nearby porch while driving his red sedan.

He also was said to hit a 13-year-old boy riding his bike.

"All of sudden this guy rolls in and hits me!" recalled Kole Price.

Price suffered a leg injury but is expected to be ok. He questioned the sanity of the man who allegedly hit him.

"I think that guy was a nut job and he's like messed up or something," added Price.

Investigators say they were called by the suspect's mother after he called her to pick him up and made a bold claim.

"He had told his mother that she would be very proud of him because he had just killed 10 drug dealers," Gualtieri said.

At this point, though, investigators say there's no evidence the victims were anything but innocent and that this was a random crime.

Investigators say Giancola, 45, was either drunk or high when he was taken into custody.

Giancola's sister says that news is shocking; she says her brother had been doing fine recently.
