AUBURNDALE (FOX 13) -

Auburndale police chief Nolan McLeod died Wednesday evening after a battle with stomach cancer, the city has confirmed.

McLeod was 58 and is survived by his wife and two sons.

McLeod was hired by the city of Auburndale in 2007. Before that he worked in law enforcement in Bartow and Live Oak.

"The City of Auburndale is a better and safer place to live, work and play because of the efforts of Chief Nolan McLeod," city manager Bobby Green said in a statement.

City commissioners are expected to meet Thursday at 4 p.m. at City Hall to hear and consider a memorial proclamation in McLeod's honor.
