Husband: Publix played 'Russian roulette' with victim's life

Tom Rouch said he loves his wife more today than he did yesterday. He showed his love by testifying for her in her murder trial Wednesday.

Arunya Rouch is charged with killing a Publix employee and shooting at others inside the Tarpon Springs store in March 2010. Tom Rouch said the shooting victim, Greg Janowski, constantly harassed her.

Two weeks before the shooting, Tom said he confronted Janowski. "I asked him, 'Greg why can't you leave my wife alone? She's never done anything to you. Why don't you leave her alone?'"

Tom said the confrontation ended quickly.

"He just laughed and walked away," he told the jury.

Rouch said his wife complained working conditions at the Publix were so bad she worried it would impact her psychological health. "She came up to me and said she thought she was mentally sick."

Rouch admitted he consulted an attorney who may pursue legal action against Publix.

"They [Publix] knew there was a problem. They didn't do anything about it. She made threats and they didn't do anything about it. They didn't call the police, they didn't call Greg, they didn't call me they didn't do anything. As far as I'm concerned, they played Russian roulette with his life and this is the end result."

Later Wednesday, a psychiatrist testified Arunya Rouch was sane at the time of the shooting.

Dr. Emily Lazarou interviewed Rouch in jail. She told jurors Rouch knew when Janowski would arrive for work the day of the shooting. Rouch hid a gun inside a Publix shopping bag.

"That took some thought," Lazarou offered.
