Two people are dead after a murder-suicide that played out Friday in a restaurant parking lot in front of two small children, investigators said.
It happened outside the Village Inn at North Dale Mabry and Humphrey, just north of Waters Avenue.
It started as a custody exchange between a divorced couple, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators say the couple argued, then the man shot the woman, and then turned the gun on himself.
And two children saw it all.
Investigators say one of the children belonged to the couple, and there was a second, unrelated child there as well. We're told they're an 8-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl.
Unfortunately, they had no choice but see this all go down. Deputies say the man got out his truck, approached the woman, shot her, and then turned the gun on himself.
Witnesses heard it all happen.
"I thought it was fireworks at first, and when I came out to see, I saw the lady on the floor and then when I looked, the guy shot himself," said nearby resident Jessica Hernandez.
Investigators haven't released the any names yet, but tell us they are looking into the couple's past.
