Suspects sought in Brandon shooting

Authorities are looking for two men they say broke into a Brandon-area apartment, and shot and killed a man inside.

Investigators say two intruders kicked in the door of the apartment where 49-year-old Leon Davis was sleeping, and fatally shot him at least twice.

Detectives say as Davis was being shot, a woman in the apartment snatched up her three children, locked herself and them in the bathroom, and called 911 on her cell phone.

When they arrived, she was still holed up, hysterical. But she and the three kids were not physically harmed.

Larry McKinnon, a spokesman for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, says the shooting was not random. For whatever reason, Davis was targeted.

"Right now, detectives are digging through the weeds, trying to establish what happened and why," McKinnon said.

Homicide detectives are still conducting interviews, analyzing forensic evidence and working to sort out a possible motive.
