They are a very close family. Siblings Britney, Heather and Zachary Koch do just about everything together.
"It's a constant competition. What one does, the other one does," Zack said.
There are about two years between each sibling, and what they are accomplishing is pretty amazing. Tuesday night, middle child Heather was lauded at the Hillsborough County School Board meeting for having perfect attendance from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
But she wasn't the first in her family. Two years ago, Britney paved the way, never missing a day. And their younger brother Zach is following in their footsteps: as he heads into his junior year in high school, he hasn't missed a day either.
Britney says they are just healthy individuals.
"We were very blessed. We didn't get chicken pox or strep, or any kind of major illness, she says.
"It just feels like a responsibility to me, to show up and do stuff," Zach says.
These siblings say, even with the perfect attendance record, they are not perfect.
"We're big procrastinators in this house," Britney admits.
And getting them up and going, isn't easy.
"Oh my gosh, church—we're late every week," Britney says.
"It starts at nine, we get there at 9:02, 9:05," Heather says.
"I'm lucky if I get there for the baptism," Britney adds.
But they never miss a day. Their dad, Jim, is thrilled and a little shocked.
"It's unreal that they haven't gotten sick. But I was always pretty healthy," he says.
Britney, Heather and Zachary say there were days they didn't feel like going to school. But they knew what would happen if they didn't go.
"You still have to make up your work, so if you miss two or three days in a row, that's a whole bunch of work you have to make up," Zach says.
They say they never went to school sick, just to get perfect attendance. In fact, they steer clear of anyone who seems sick.
"I personally made that a priority, telling people, 'don't get me sick. I'm not going to miss school'." Britney said.
Most people can't believe all three siblings are on the path to perfection. But for the Koch siblings?
"Around here it's just the norm. The same rules apply for all of us, we're a very close family."
