Police released a dramatic 911 call that details what took place during a home invasion where a 9-year-old called police as two men attacked his father.
The home invasion happened Tuesday night around 8 p.m.
Desmond Pringley was in another room when he saw two men use a gun to force their way inside the house and violently attack his father, police said.
In the 911 call, you hear yelling and arguing in the background as Desmond tells the dispatcher he is hiding behind a chair.
The dispatcher coaxes bits and pieces of information out of the child until police arrive.
You hear officers yelling "hands up!" A female officer finds Desmond, and makes sure he is okay.
You can hear her consoling him, telling him he was a "smart boy" for calling 911.
Friday, Chief Jane Castor also took time to praise Desmond's actions at his school, where she presented him with an award for bravery, with a number of his classmates surrounding them.
"We'd like this to be a lesson for all these kids as to what to do in an emergency, to be able to call 911, to make sure the police are there to help in any circumstances," Castor said.
Thanks in part to Desmond's descriptions, officers located and arrested Luis Alberto Morales, 18, in connection with the home invasion.
The second suspect, 21-year-old Andrew Portugues, was taken into custody last night.
