The renovated USF Sun Dome will host rock 'n roll royalty this fall. Sir Elton John will perform at the 'grand reopening' concert on September 14.
The 10,000-seat arena opened in 1980 but a yearlong renovation project just finished, adding a new sound system, video boards, updated suites, and a variety of other improvements both inside and out.
Several events had already been scheduled at the arena over the next few months, including a September 25 show by Florence and the Machine, but university officials consider the Elton John show to be the "special grand opening."
Tickets go on sale June 15 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster outlets and the Sun Dome box office. Prices are $39.50, $89.50 and $139.50.
It's not John's first trip to USF. He played the Sun Dome in the late 80s.
