It's rare to find a Good Day Grad as humble as the one we met this week.
We had to pull every impressive detail from him.
That's OK. The world will soon enough know just how good he really is.
Brett Gilman is something of a class sweetheart.
He's just an all-around good guy, finally getting ready to graduate.
"I think I'm going to miss it," he said, "but I'm excited to move on to college."
The Florida State Seminoles are calling.
"That's where I've wanted to go my entire life," Gilman told us, smiling proudly. "That's where both my parents went and my older brother goes there."
He's the middle of three brothers. The youngest will soon be on his way, too.
FSU is lucky to have Gilman, who's National Honor Society with a 4.0 or higher every year.
while he may be shy and soft-spoken, his teachers had no trouble
bragging on him. Whenever the opportunity presented itself, no matter
how high the goal,
he was always the one they believed could get the job done.
And he did.
Gilman is also a varsity sportsman. He plays for the Clearwater Tornadoes basketball team. And, of course, he plays his favorite sport, baseball, where you'll find him on first base and in the outfield.
"I just love playing sports," he said, "and I love being active in school. It helps me meet new people and new friends and keeps me busy."
And he was on the homecoming court. Could this kid be more involved?
"It takes long hours," he said laughing, "and long nights and not a lot of sleep sometimes."
So is it all worth it? For Brett, it seems like second nature.
But he doesn't take himself too seriously.
He's just along for the ride.
"I'm not really sure what I want to do when I grow up," he said. "I still don't know."
Not a thing wrong with that.
