The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected Alabama safety Mark Barron with the seventh pick of the NFL draft.
I like this pick—the Bucs get the best safety in the draft, Alabama's Mark Barron. He ran Bama's defense, basically the QB of that dominating defense.
Barron is a tough physical safety. He has the ability to come up and stuff the run, and has the speed, impressive speed to close in coverage.
A lot of teams had Barron at the top of their draft board at that position and all of those teams agree that he can come in and be a starter on day one.
Remember, the Bucs cut loose safety Tanard Jackson. It means that Ronde Barber will be at corner. The legal status of Aqib Talib is up in the air, but the Bucs signed free agent Eric Wright.
Overall this is a good pick, the right move I think. To me it was a toss up between Barron and Luke Kuechly the linebacker from BC -- either one to me was the right move.
We have complete coverage at 10pm tonight, with Chris Field getting the fan reaction to this pick at the Buc's draft party and Kevin O'Donnell joins us live at One Buc with the reaction and comments from GM Mark Dominik and Head Coach Greg Schiano.
