A Pasco County Sheriff’s deputy is expected be okay after she was injured during a high-speed chase Tuesday that also resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
It happened at the intersection of Florestate Drive and U.S. 19. According to the sheriff’s office, Dep. Ashley Grady stopped a truck this morning around 7:19 for suspicion of DUI.
Grady handcuffed the suspect, but somehow the suspect escaped and sped off, with Grady chasing her back to the truck to stop the woman from fleeing.
As the truck sped across three lanes of the highway, according to investigators, Grady hung on before she let go, suffering a head injury and scrapes.
The suspect crossed into Hernando County, where she slammed into a motorcycle at County Line Road and U.S. 19, killing the driver.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 21-year-old Brittany Elizabeth Miles. Authorities say her charges will include least fleeing to elude, escape, and aggravated battery on a law enforcement, and possibly attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
