A Georgia woman seriously injured in a Labor Day weekend parasailing accident has died, Fish and Wildlife officials said Sunday.
Alejandra White, 27, passed away around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, nearly a week after the parasail she and her fiance were riding broke loose from a boat and flew towards the beach near Pier 60.
Witnesses said the parasail crashed into several umbrellas on the beach before wrapping around a volleyball pole. People in the area also said that the weather had begun turning stormy and windy shortly before the accident happened.
White's fiance, Shaun Ladd, only suffered minor injuries in the crash. White had been hospitalized immediately after the accident in critical condition.
Ladd and White were on vacation in Clearwater Beach when the accident occurred.
Fish and Wildlife officials are continuing their investigation and are looking into tougher regulations for parasail operators.
