Some Florida dentists may be taking the debate over water fluoridation to Pinellas County voters.
Pinellas County Commissioners voted 4-3 in October to end water fluoridation by Dec. 31.
The St. Petersburg Times reports that leaders in state and local dental groups have begun weekly conference calls to consider options for a county charter referendum next year to require that Pinellas fluoridate water.
The dental group expects to launch a website with the recommended fluoride levels in Pinellas County communities.
Fluoride opponents say they would fight a referendum.
Most health organizations support fluoridation for dental health, but opponents say it's poison.
