Stephen Fanuka, contractor to the stars, has some steps residents should take to protect their property.

He lists the things you should have in your emergency kit as well as explain what things folks need to focus on to storm-proof their homes.

STORM PREP TIPS
-- make sure that anything that's outside, projectiles, trash cans, furniture, gravel, will be the worst enemy,
--dead branches, trim trees, brace the trees.

PARTS OF THE HOUSE MOST VULNERABLE TO WIND
-- garage doors, patio doors,
--windows (if they don't have shutters, it may be too late)
--tape doesn't prevent the window from breaking, but you can tape it to prevent the glass from flying all over the house.

HOW TO PROTECT DOORS & ROOF
--get deadbolts, on doors.
-- fortify where the roof meets the wall

EMERGENCY KIT SHOULD INCLUDE:
--nylon rope, batteries
--basic tools - hammer, screwdriver, wrench, nylon rope, tape, 3 inch nails, 3 inch screws,
--flashlight, lantern, D batteries

CHECKLIST
--check insurance policy
--weather radio
--all cellphones charged
--food and water for 3 days
