April is a Tampa native, and is excited to be living in and covering the area where she grew up.
April is a graduate of H.B. Plant High School. From there, she attended the University of Florida, earning a Bachelor's degree in telecommunication/news from the university's prestigious College of Journalism and Communications.
While in college, she produced, reported, and anchored for WUFT Channel 5 in Gainesville and interned here at WTVT.
Before joining FOX 13 in October of 2006, April spent two years working in Hillsborough County's Communications Department. While working for the county, she hosted several shows on HTV22, winning her the 2005 Beacon Award for Best National Host.
April also spent two years serving as the Manatee County reporter for Bay News 9. While there, she received national attention for her coverage on the tragic kidnapping and killing of Carlie Brucia. She got her start working in Sarasota for SNN Channel 6, another 24-hour cable news channel.
While in Sarasota, she had the opportunity to report on some of the area's biggest stories, including the infamous day at an area school when President Bush was first informed of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Television news appealed to April from a very young age. As an aspiring journalist at Tampa's Roosevelt Elementary, she was chosen to read the school's morning announcements. April and her husband enjoy watching Gator football on the weekends while spending time with their pug, Molly, and two cats.
