Stand-up paddle surfing, also know as "suping" is the fastest
growing water sport in the world. Stand-up paddle surfing can be
traced back to early Polynesia, where Hawaiian surf instructors
stood up on boards to better see their students and the swells.
Now, "suping" catches on in the Bay area as a new way to enjoy the
water, and to work out.

The U.S. National Adaptive Rowing Team has done some training in
Tampa. Their hosts at the Steward Boat house realized the Bay area
has more than 5,000 disabled veterans. So they got some vets out on
the water paddling, and a star was born. Eric McDaniel just made
that national team last weekend.

Since the 70s, the St. Pete sailing center has been launching
kids into a lifetime of sailing, producing America's cup winners,
world champions, and even Olympic medalists. This afternoon,
though, it's about the group known as Harbor Mice -- the five to
seven year olds wrapping up their two-week camp. The big kids still
have another month to make it to summer sailing camp.

Once sailing's in your system, nothing quite replaces the peace
you feel out on the water, moving with the wind. And there's no
place Palmetto's John McDonald would rather be than on the Trimaran
he built more than 25 years ago.

Sailing can be fun for a day, or even a week -- but imagine 260
days of it, all alone. That is the journey Anthony Steward went on.
He moved from South Africa to the Bay Area in December, and
considers the Clearwater sailing center his new home base. In this
segment of Chris's Crafts, "Ant" shares his adventure.

Every time we cover one boating story for Chris' Crafts, we
learn about another. We met the president of Sunsail when he told
us about his company sponsoring Olympic sailor Zach Railey. Then,
Lex Ross filled us in on another sport he's fond of, besides
sailing: outrigger canoeing. His club, Team Kai Aniani, means
"clear water" in Hawaiian.
