(NewsCore) - Top seed Caroline Wozniacki was sent packing Friday from the U.S. Open in her semi-final match against No. 8 Vera Zvonareva of Russia, falling in straight sets 6-4 6-3.

Wozniacki, who had not dropped a set in the tournament before the match, committed 31 unforced errors compared to only 13 winners throughout the match.

’It was very difficult for both of us with the wind,’ Zvonareva said after the win, but she committed to her "patient and aggressive’ play in order to stun the top seed.

The loss ended Wozniacki’s fantastic record this summer, winning 19 of 20 matches. It also ended her chances of receiving a $1 million bonus check if she won the whole tournament, having won the Olympus U.S. Open series earlier in the summer.

Zvonareva, who lost to Serena Williams in the Wimbledon finals earlier this year, will face either No. 3 Venus Williams or No. 2 Kim Clijsters in her first ever U.S. Open finals Saturday night.
