TAMPA - Major League Baseball suspended Tampa Bay Rays catcher Dioner Navarro for two games and fined him an undisclosed amount for inappropriate conduct during an April 23 game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
MLB Vice President Bob Watson announced the suspension Tuesday and cited Navarro's making contact with umpire Dan Bellino during the top of the sixth innning, when Navarro argued a pitch that was called a ball.
Navarro was ejected from the game and was not in the lineup Saturday and Sunday.
Navarro is scheduled to serve his suspension tonight and Wednesday when the Rays play the Oakland Athletics at Tropicana Field, unless he appeals beforehand.
