MIAMI - Former Eastern Airlines flight attendants and passengers are marking the anniversary of a 1972 jetliner crash in the Florida Everglades.

Flight 401 from New York to Miami crashed Dec. 29, 1972, after the cockpit crew became distracted with a faulty landing gear light.

They didn't notice that the plane was descending until they were just feet above the Everglades. About 75 people survived the crash, and 101 people died.

Some of the survivors are meeting Tuesday night at a restaurant near the Miami International Airport. Flight attendant Beverly Raposa says the group decided they "should mark the anniversary together."

Raposa is one of the founders of the Eastern Airlines Flight 401 Tribute Group, which wants to build a memorial honoring the crash victims.
