Diver missing off Anna Maria Island

ST. PETERSBURG - The Coast Guard has spent much of the day searching for a missing diver off the coast of Manatee County.

Just before 10:30 a.m., the Coast Guard station in St. Petersburg received a call from someone aboard the 22-foot boat 'Malikot' reporting that Darren Rordan, 31, had not surfaced from a dive.

A helicopter and two ships were dispatched to search the area 18 miles west of Anna Maria Island.

Despite scattered storms, the Coast Guard says weather conditions in the area are generally good, with 2- to 3-foot seas and 10-mile visibility.
