LAKELAND - You would never know that something was different simply by walking on it. Or touching it. Or even smelling it.
Many people are surprised to learn that there is even such a thing as recycled carpeting, but there is.
"Basically it is bulletproof as far as being able to stain it," said Randy Stinson, ovner of Stinson's Carpeting on Commerce Blvd. in Lakeland.
Stinson says you can use even use bleach on it to get out a stain, even the most frustrating ones left behind by your pet.
Recycled carpeting can be made from corn or plastic bottles.
It is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to recycled household items. They now sell all kinds of things that were once something else.
You can buy patio bricks made from rubber tires, a magazine rack made from old reading material, or a kitchen counter top that was once glass bottles.
More and more recycled items are showing up in Home Decor stores, and people are buying them.
"I think it's a no-brainer," offered Katie Glass, executive director of Keep Polk County Beautiful.
