Fire breaks out at Lakeland Winn Dixie

LAKELAND - The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire at a Winn Dixie early this morning.

Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the supermarket in the 2600 block of Highway 92 East in Lakeland just after 1:30 a.m. When crews arrived they saw flames at the back of the store.

Firefighters contained most of the fire to an attached, exterior food cooler, officials said. The store's sprinkler system helped extinguish the flames inside, but the interior sustained some fire, smoke and water damage.

The store was closed at the time of the fire, and no one was inside. No injuries were reported.

Winn Dixie will open later this morning, officials said.
