Lake Wales school lockdowns end

LAKE WALES - Two schools in Polk County were disrupted this morning because of reports that a gunman was on the loose nearby.

Spook Hill Elementary School and Lake Wales High School were put into lockdown mode after a woman dropping off her child at Spook Hill told authorities she saw a man holding what appeared to be a gun walking near the school.

For over an hour, officers and deputies canvassed the surrounding neighborhood while the campuses were secured.

However, authorities were unable to find anyone matching the woman's description and the schools were allowed to return to normal operation by 10 a.m.
