Woman run over in church parking lot

HAINES CITY - Authorities are investigating an accident at a Haines City church parking lot where an elderly woman was run over.

Police say 88-year-old Adel Czubrenski of Winter Haven was walking outside on Saturday when a driver appeared to have pushed the gas pedal instead of the brake.

Police say she was flown to a hospital with serious injuries.

The driver was identified as 77-year-old Albert Peterson of Clermont. Police say he was backing out of a handicap parking spot when he hit the pedestrian before accelerating into a tree.

Police say charges are pending.
