BARTOW - Evelyn Boyd had fasted many times before -- once for up to 40 days. So when she started on a three week fast recently, her husband didn't think much of it.
But this fast was different: she died.
"Fasting until you die is extreme, but it's not against the law," said Polk Sheriff Grady Judd. He says it is unlikely that any charges will be filed.
The woman's husband, Bishop John Boyd, is the founder of Higher Praise Full Gospel Ministries in downtown Bartow. He fasts as well, but more moderately, for just a few days at a time.
Boyd's funeral is going to be held Saturday, at the Vine Street Church of God in Bartow.
