LAKELAND - A freshman at Florida Southern College was shot early Sunday morning while walking around Lake Hollingsworth.
Andrew Tuccinardi made a terrible mistake Sunday morning. he decided to get some fresh air about 12:30 a.m., so he began to walk around Lake Hollingsworth by himself. Minutes later, he was shot.
He fell to the ground in the bike path right across the street from Lake Holllingsworth Apartments, where Shadrick Peyton had just turned in.
"Woke up my wife, and looked out the window and saw someone laying in the road and heard a bunch of screaming," he said.
It didn't take long for a crowd to form. People who gathered to help say Tuccinardi was shot in the torso and couldn't feel his legs. Tuccinardi told them that a man in a red car stopped to ask directions, then opened fire.
He was rushed to the hospital in stable condition. His parents, who live on the East Coast, have asked Lakeland Regional Medical Center not to release any more information about his condition.
Police say there are no eyewitnesses other than the victim.
