LAKELAND - It's a hard job, but your children's school is responsible for keeping track of your children from the minute they get there to the minute they leave. A Lakeland mom says her kid's school made a terrible mistake that put the child's life in danger -- not once, but twice.

Kaylee Mitchell is only 5 years old, but she has been doing a lot of travelling lately, much to the horror of her mom.

School officials at Griffen Elementary School in Lakeland have lost track of Kaylee twice in the last few months.

"I am scared of sending her back to school," her mom, Lee Ann Mizell, said.

Kaylee is supposed to go to an aftercare program at Griffen. Instead, her mom, who works during the day, says Kaylee has been put on a school bus two times. The bus took her to the apartment complex where she lives.

Both times she was found wandering around, lost.

"I don't think that any child deserves to be in that position where she can be kidnapped, raped, killed, or anything," Mizell said.

The first time it happened back in September, school officials assured Mizell that it would not happen again.

"The teacher was dealt with. That's all I can tell you. It's a personnel matter," said Charlene Richardson Brinson, Polk's Director of Elementary Schools.

But last week, Kaylee ended up on a bus again -- wandering around her complex again.

School officials are investigating, but Kaylee's mom is not waiting for the outcome of the probe.
She is transferring her daughter to another school.
