ST. PETERSBURG - About 70 employees who were evacuated from a St. Petersburg building because of a suspicious package have been let back in, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators did not say what was in the bag, but did say there were no explosive or dangerous devices.
A bomb squad was called to 501 1st Avenue North after employees there reported a suspicious brown bag with something inside of it propped up against a door on the third floor of the building.
That building houses several government offices, including the tag agency, elections supervisor and worker's compensation offices.
The employees told police that they did not recognize the package and said no packages belonged in that location. Police evacuated all 10 floors of the building and sealed off surrounding roads.
