A St. Petersburg police officer is recovering after investigators said a suspected drunk driver ran into his unmarked cruiser.
Officer Gregory Shone was driving southbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Street just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, responding to assist another officer with his emergency lights and siren turned on, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.
That's when a Nissan Maxima, driven by Lura Goldsmith, 47, of Greenville, S.C., tried to turn left from 20th Avenue South on MLK and into the path of the cruiser, police said.
The police car slid off the road and into a fence, and the car spun around and came to a rest on the sidewalk.
Shone, Goldsmith, and Goldsmith's two passengers were taken to Bayfront Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
Goldsmith, 47, was booked into the Pinellas County jail shortly before 2 a.m. Monday, jail records show.
He's charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
