Emergency crews spent much of the day at a fatal accident in Pinellas County.

It was around 9:45 a.m., investigators say, when a Toyota Camry lost control on Tampa Road and slammed into a railroad crossing signal pole at State Road 580.

The force of the crash killed the driver, identified as Louis Anthony Diaz of Brandon, and knocked the overhead warning lights down onto the roadway.

Tampa Road's westbound lanes were closed for several hours, and train service along the tracks was interrupted.

Deputies say that CSX will be implementing special procedures for trains crossing at that spot until the signal has been repaired.
