Weekend race may cause travel delays

Sunday triathlon expected to draw thousands

CLEARWATER - The 1,000 expected participants in the Fourth Annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon may cause traffic jam in Clearwater and Belleair on Sunday.

The course begins at 6:50 a.m. in Sand Key Park and will run through communities in Clearwater and Belleair.

The following locations, bridges, and streets will be impacted from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. during the triathlon:
 

  • Sand Key Park - Palm Ave. - West Bay Dr.
  • Sand Key Bridge - Turner Street - Belleair Causeway Bridge
  • S. Gulfview Blvd. - Bay Ave.
  • Hamden Dr. - Druid Rd. W.
  • Coronado Dr. - Druid Rd. S.
  • Memorial Causeway Bridge - Belleview Blvd.
  • Gulf Blvd. - Indian Rocks Rd.

The triathlon begins with a one-third mile open water swim at Sand Key Park, and will continue with a 13-mile bicycling course through Clearwater Beach. Then participants will run 3.1 miles in Sand Key Park.
