OLDSMAR - A monkey has been spotted racing around a neighborhood in Oldsmar.
Someone called deputies to let them know they saw a monkey leaping through the trees and running across rooftops Sunday near The Sable Palms Apartments on Bay Harbor Drive.
Florida Fish and Wildlife officers say it looks like it’s about thirty pounds and could be another Macaque.
A crowd gathered Sunday as the wildlife officers and deputies
tried to chase the monkey down and capture it.
“They finally got it to jump down and it ran right
across the building areas and it kept running away from them. They
got it cornered once, but I guess it eluded them again and took off
into the woods,” said Ashley Thompson.
Deputies say the monkey got into an area in the bushes where they couldn’t get to it, so they called off the search for now.
Wildlife officers say these monkeys can be aggressive, so they
say people shouldn’t try to catch it or feed it. Instead,
call them if you see it.
