Deputy involved accident under investigation

PALM HARBOR - The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy involved accident. It happened overnight, around 12:45 a.m. on US 19 and Curlew Road.

Investigators say Deputy Anthony Lorusso was driving behind Kathleen Kotz as they approached an intersection. The light was green, however Kotz quickly slowed down because of an approaching ambulance.

Detectives say Lorusso couldn’t stop his cruiser in time and ended up crashing into the back of Kotz’s Volkswagon.

Kotz was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital with minor injuries. Lorusso was not injured in the crash.
