Neo-Nazi's murder trial begins with makeover

NEW PORT RICHEY - The make up may not have worked. Many of the prospective jurors in the murder trial of John Allen Ditullio say they knew he was using make up to cover tattoos.

Ditullio is accused of stabbing a neighbor in 2006 and killing her house guest. Ditullio is accused of being a member of a group called the Teak Street Nazis. Prosecutors say he stabbed his neighbor Tricia Wells, mistakenly believing she was dating an African American man and killing her house guest, Kristopher King, thinking he was gay.

Friday, a judge granted a motion allowing a make up artist to cover many of the tattoos on Ditullio's face and neck. The tattoos are of a Swastika and barbed wire.

His defense attorneys worry the tattoos would offend jurors.

"The biggest thing that comes to mind is the makeup artist that was designed cover up tattoos and markings," said one prospective juror during questioning.

Another prospective juror even knew what the state will pay the make-up artist.

"They were going to pay somebody $150 dollars to do make up on him."

As for Wells, she was incredulous about the make up.

"For them to have to cover them (tattoos) at tax payers expense I don't believe should have been done."

Wells was planning to testify Monday.

"It's been a long time. I've been waiting for this to happen and it's finally here," Wells said.

If convicted, prosecutors will ask for the death penalty for Ditullio.
