INGLIS - A search is underway in Citrus County after a jail inmate escaped from the custody of a deputy.
Officials say Terry N. Davis escaped in the vicinity of Allen's Bait & Seafood on Elkins Rd. in Inglis and jumped into the Withlacoochee River to avoid being caught.
Davis, 47, was in jail for a variety of charges ranging from grand theft to fleeing and eluding a police officer. Investigators said that a detective had signed him out of the Corrections Corporation of America jail in Lecanto for routine questioning in connection with several unsolved property crimes when he took off.
Davis is described as a white male with brownish-gray hair and blue eyes. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 155 pounds. He may have a cast on one of his arms and may be favoring his right leg due to stitches received from a previous injury.
He is believed to have shed his jail-issued orange jumpsuit.
If you see Davis, deputies say, do not approach him; call 911 immediately.
