Bale of hay kills Pasco County man

DADE CITY - A Pasco County man was killed when a bale of hay apparently fell on him.

The sheriff's office reports that 62-year-old Harold Peterson was found Sunday morning sitting on his tractor under a bale of hay.

His wife spotted him when she went out to their barn. She ran inside their home to call 911 and then went to seek help from a neighbor. The bale was resting partially on Peterson's chest and partially on the tractor's steering wheel. The neighbor pushed the hay off, but Peterson didn't respond.

Authorities say the bale likely fell on Peterson when he tried to move it. It appeared that his neck was broken.
